Manchester celebrates its annual Festival by the Sea at Masconomo Park hosted by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.  Rotary will have a booth, serve refreshments and drive awareness of what we do in our community.

Dick Moody is a retired Luitenant Colonel with US Air Force. He is also the Founder and Director of Operation Troop Support, a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to help deployed soldiers and their families  by sending care packages oversees. 

Annual Singing Beach Meeting

This KY Derby Live Auction item is sure to be a fan favorite! Rotarians cook & serve a group of guests who get to enjoy an evening at Tucks Point. This volunteer opportunity hardly feels like work when the location is so beautiful and you get to partake in the festivities.  

This month's board meeting will be one week late as Jack will be on vacation and will be off the grid.

The 2nd annual "Performing Arts in the Park" will be 6-8pm on August 23rd at Masconomo Park.  The club will give out snacks, water and/or a dessert.

Colleen will be speaking about the CCB Foundation in advance of their annual fundraiser Cory’s Trivia Night & Silent Auction. The event will take place on Saturday, October 28^th at the Gloucester Elks. This year we are thrilled to announce we are opening the CORE Peer Recovery and Resource Center located in Gloucester.  All funds raised this year will go directly to enhancing program offerings at the CORE.

The CCB Foundation was established in memory of our son Cory Bullard.  On August 19th 2017, at the age of 30, Cory lost his battle with the disease of addiction.  Ironically, this should have been the day Cory celebrated over 2 years of sobriety, but like others trying to manage this life-long chronic disease, Cory had a single relapse, which ultimately took his life.  Like so many other individuals suffering from this disease Cory was intelligent, well educated, funny, caring, and compassionate. He had worked so hard over the past two years of his life to overcome the disease and get his life back on track. He began enjoying life again; hiking, fishing, family events, and being with friends. He went back to college and received his accreditation for substance abuse counseling. 

Annual Clamfest includes a festival with vendors and chowder competition.

Rotary will setup our tent and be giving away water and treats.

In addition, Mike Storella tells us the Clamfest has a need for our help from 11 - 1:30 at with the actual event, so there is a new signup for that - of course our booth members can always go over and help with it too.

I got a call from the Chamber today , they are looking for volunteers for them during the clam fest,  They have a shortage from 11AM- 1:30 PM

 

Helping the chowda line selling tickets for chawda, hand out spoons etc etc.  GOOD chance to get Rotary noticed in Essex wear your Rotary hats etc,  

 

Most of our volunteers are for our booth, but if we can get a few more it would be great to perform this service. 

 

Tim works for Connect M financial company and will  focus on the current wave of movement to Heat pumps and Solar (electrification and decarbonization) and the incentives available to homeowners and businesses.

Ron is going to speak on the topic of organizing one's calendar to get things done.

Steve Martineau, Director of Friends Forever International, will speak about their program and Rotary's involvment with it.

Join scholar and anthropologist Mary Ellen Lepionka to learn about the history of the land now known as Beverly, MA.

As Lepionka describes, The people living where Montserrat is now were the Pawtucket of Nahumkeak. They welcomed the “Old Planters” of Salem Village, today’s Beverly, and lived peaceably side by side with them during the first 50 years of English settlement. During the 18th and 19th centuries, however, their sites, history, homeland, and very identity were “erased.”

Mary Ellen Lepionka of Gloucester is an independent scholar researching the history of Cape Ann from the last Ice Age to around 1700 for a book on the subject. Some chapters have been published at CapeAnnHistory.org

Mary Ellen’s interest in local indigenous history and culture was sparked by Samuel de Champlain’s 1606 map of Le Beauport (Gloucester) showing a wigwam on her street. Mary Ellen is a retired college instructor, textbook developer, author, and publisher with a Master’s degree in anthropology from Boston University and post-graduate work at the University of British Columbia. She taught anthropology and world history at Boston University, Vancouver City College, Northeastern University, North Shore Community College, and Salem State College.

Articles by Mary Ellen appear in the Bulletin of the Massachusetts Archaeological Society and the local history blogs Enduring Gloucester and Historic Ipswich.

District Governor Alexandar Fallk will be at our regular morning club meeting to present the club with the Membership Award for attaining our growth goals in 2022. 
 

In 2007 Elizabeth Mehlin established Mehlin Conservation in Essex, Massachusetts.  Elizabeth has sixteeen years’ experience in conservation of oil paintings for government agencies, private institutions and individual clients in the US and Canada.

She received her Master of Art Conservation degree specializing in paintings from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She holds a B.A. in Art History from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts

She will be speaking primarily about the work she has done on the mural at the Sawyer Free Library in Gloucester.
